Introduction to Content Creation: Reels & Fast Turnaround Video
A practical workshop with tutor Carys Kaiser
Whether you're a small business owner trying to grow your online presence, a budding creator with a phone full of footage you never get round to editing, or someone who just wants to understand what makes a reel actually work this workshop is for you.
you'll go from shooting to a finished reel, with everything you need to keep creating confidently long after the workshop is done.
What we'll cover
We'll start with the thinking behind great content because the best reels aren't just well edited, they're well-planned. You'll learn how to hook your audience in the first three seconds, how to structure a short video that holds attention, and how to think about your platform before you even pick up your phone.
From there we get practical. We'll look at how to get the best possible footage from your phone, when it's worth bringing in extra kit a gimbal, a second angle, a decent mic and why audio is often the thing that separates average content from content people actually share.
Then we shoot. You'll create your own short sequence during the workshop, guided by Carys, with a focus on shooting with the edit already in mind getting the variety of shots you need without wasting time on footage you'll never use.
The second part moves into editing. We'll do a real-time walkthrough of cutting a reel from scratch using CapCut, which is free and works brilliantly on both iPhone and Android. You'll then edit your own reel from the footage you shot earlier, with hands-on support throughout.
We close with a group watch-back and feedback session practical, and positive yet constructive.

This workshop is designed for mixed ability whether you've never posted a reel in your life or you're already creating content but want to do it faster and better. You don't need expensive kit. If you have a smartphone, you have everything you need to get started.

Meet Your Tutor Carys Kaiser
With 20 years working in broadcast television and film, Carys brings a rare combination of professional experience and genuine passion for teaching to every workshop she runs.
As a freelance Shooting PD, Camera Operator, Filmmaker and Drone Pilot, Carys has worked across some of the UK's most recognised productions from BBC Breakfast and Children in Need to primetime shows on Channel 4, Channel 5, Sky and STV. Her photography work has been published in The Guardian, Digital Photographer magazine and on BBC web and social platforms, and she has exhibited in the Peak District, Glossop, London and Amsterdam. She has won two awards for aerial photography and is a Canon Pro Ambassador.
Alongside her broadcast work, Carys has created award-winning social media content for major brands and campaigns. Her work for BBC Body Positive earned a Bronze Lovie Award for Best Use of Film in a Social Media Campaign. She has produced content for brands including Iceland, Wilko, BIC Pens, Veuve Clicquot and Nike, as well as charities and start-ups bringing the same craft and creative instinct to a 30-second reel as she does to a primetime shoot.
Carys has been training and mentoring emerging talent throughout her career running courses for ScreenSkills and BBC North, training professionals from ITV and BBC, guest lecturing at Edge Hill University and the University of Salford, and delivering sessions at The Photography Show. She has a straightforward, practical approach to teaching no unnecessary jargon, just real skills grounded in real experience.
